The KC Pioneers believe that building a stronger LGBTQ+ and leather community takes more than words—it takes work. Whether we’re volunteering at coat check or offering unrestricted grants, we’re committed to uplifting causes that align with our values of inclusion, visibility, and care.

Guidelines & Eligibility

1. An applicant must have their headquarters, or significant presence no further than a 50-mile radius from Union Station.

2. Applicants must be a registered organization with Missouri or Kansas Secretary of State and be in good standing. Please provide your organization charter papers for easy finding.

3. Organizations will be prioritized the following way:

a. Registered Non-Profit or Charity with the IRS under any 501 classifications. Please provide a copy of your determination letter from the IRS.

b. Registered Not-for-profits in Missouri or Kansas. Please provide a copy of your state issued registration.

4. While LGBTQ+ centric organizations are preferred, it is not a requirement. However, the organization MUST have a publicly accessible inclusion statement. Please provide your inclusion statement and where to publicly find it.

5. There must be a specific need with a specific dollar amount requested. Requests without a specific dollar amount and specific need will not be considered. Those requests for “General Fund”, etc. will not be considered. Please provide detailed information on your request and cost structure behind the figure requested.

Is this organization listed with the State of Missouri or Kansas as a Non-Profit or Charity?

Is your business (as defined above) within a 50 Mile Radius from the Union Station Post Office?

Is your organization a Non-Profit or Not-For-Profit?

Any other type of organization will be considered lastly in this process.  Individuals do not qualify for the grant program, 501c3 tax class organizations will get preference in selection and awarding

Is your organization a Religious or Political Organization?

Religious and Political Organizations do not qualify for this Grant Program.  This includes PAC's (Political Action Committees), Churches, Political Candidates, other organizations that political or religious organizations are their primary beneficiaries.

Do you have a public inclusion statement?

Any organization that has any type of noninclusionary ideology, or contest for inclusion is disqualified. Any organization that is discriminatory based on age, race, gender, gender-identity, sex, sexual preference, or any other class may be disqualified from the Grant Program.

About Your Organization

Personal Info

For the current year Grant Program, applications are available and accepted starting June 1st of that year.  Final deadline for applying is October 31st of that year.  Applications will be examined and determinations sent out by December 1st.  You must be present in December, in person, to accept the grant and photo opportunity on the regular scheduled Education Night held on the third Wednesday of December.

Confluence HRKC offers free supply kits for safer drug use, including test strips and Naloxone, which is used for opioid overdose reversal. They also provide condoms, wound care supplies, Plan B, basic hygiene kits, and N95 masks. All their supplies are always free.

The City of Fountains Sisters (CoFS), a modern order of 21st century nuns. Since our acceptance as an Aspirant House, we have devoted ourselves to: community service, promoting human rights, and respect for both diversity and spiritual enlightenment. We believe all people have the right to express their unique joy and beauty. When necessary, we use humor, wit, and wisdom to expose the forces of bigotry and guilt that chain the human spirit.

The KC Pioneers were founded in 1975, as a gay male motorcycle group. We have evolved into Kansas City’s most senior LGBTQIA charity. The KC Pioneers are a 509a2 tax exempt charity.
